About Me

I was an active child and young adult. I surfed, bicycled everywhere, and paid my way through college by exercising racehorses. But starting in college, I began to have intermittent back pain, then sciatica. For over six years I couldn’t find a therapist or doctor who could help me with the near constant pain. Finally, I tried the Alexander Technique. Like so many other people who take Alexander Technique lessons, I felt the difference right away– weird, lighter, and so much better. I learned that I had habits that had been pulling me down – literally, almost my entire life.

As I kept taking lessons, I grew half an inch, improved my surfing, felt much better after working out, and magically stopped slumping. Sitting up and reading, which had become impossible, was enjoyable again. I realized that my sciatica and bad posture were from all the excess muscle tension I habitually used to stand, to walk – to do anything.

Originally named “Psycho-physical re-education,” the Alexander Technique taught me to use just the effort I needed to do anything - walk, sit up, lift weights, etc. I had more energy, and simply felt better — all day. I improved so much, but wanted to learn more. After two years of private lessons, I moved to Santa Monica and enrolled in a three-year teacher-training course. Now I have the pleasure of helping people move easily, improve their posture and eliminate their chronic pain as they learn how to shed life-long harmful habits that hold them back and down.

The best learning experience is in-person because a teacher’s hands communicate so much.  However, since Covid I have been offering Zoom classes with great success.
